The above Instruction was implemented in 1960 - see letter on right.
From that date, the Bank undertook to take repayments from mortgagors
who had been granted a loan by Birmingham Corporation. These loans, generally referred to as 'Housing Acts Advances' were popular
in areas such as Handsworth and Small Heath - being extensively used by newly arrived immigrants.
The initial Instruction catered
for repayments made over Bank counters. It was soon extended (see letter below) to enable repayments to be made by Standing Order
from a BMB Account.
