The increase in salaries is due to (1) the operation of scale increases to general clerks (males);
(2) increments to officers whose salaries are on an ascending scale until the minimum rate is reached; (3) increases under old agreements;
and (4) promotions, and (5) engagement of additional clerks.
£476 of the increase in Rents, Rates and Insurance is in respect
of Rates on Bank properties.
The increase in Heating amounts to £206, and is due to increased charges for gas, which came into
force during the year. Cleaning expenses show an increase of £79, accounted for by new Branches and extra cleaning during the winter.
Expenditure
not regarded as normal working expenses amounts to £61,066. 5. 4d, as compared with £54,165. 9. 8d last year, and is made up as follows:

The net result gives an excess of Income over expenditure of £28,960. 18. 9d as compared with £18,896.

Balance Sheet.
It will be observed that the investments held by the Corporation on behalf of the Bank
stand at £15,087,000, as compared with £12,426,000 last year.
The outstanding liabilities on house purchase advances are increased £256,041. 8. 4d.
