The following data has been extracted from the Bank's Annual Reports for the reporting periods between September 1st 1919 and November 20th 1979. The level of detail reported, and the accounting standards adopted, varied over these years, as did the Bank's financial policies and the taxation treatment of the Bank. No formal Income & Expenditure Account was publicly reported until the Year Ended March 31st 1927; prior to this the published Balance Sheet was accompanied by a Receipts and Payments Account.

 

Accordingly, a direct comparison of levels of Profit (ie Excess of Income over Expenditure) between years is not entirely valid. The following table, however, is limited to three comparable items from the Bank's annual income and expenditure: interest received and paid; and management expenses.
