Birmingham Corporation Savings Bank:
Report by J P Hilton - January 4th 1919
The report shows the amount of recent withdrawals and Mr Hilton cites Christmas spending and the changing employment situation as the reasons. The postwar employment situation is also the reason for other matters reported, including the closure of works branches. Reference is made to the Pitman Hotel, a building that had become available and was considered as a possible replacement Head Office for the Bank.
The Manager and the City Treasurer had recently visited the Bolton Co-operative Society and the Burnley Building Society with a view to obtaining information regarding House Purchase systems pending the introduction of a similar service in the Birmingham Municipal Bank.
