Birmingham Corporation Savings Bank:
Report by J P Hilton - December 2nd 1918
With the recent signing of The Armistice, the Committee members are mainly concerned with the procedures necessary to replace the temporary Birmingham Corporation Savings Bank with the permanent Birmingham Municipal Bank. Mr Hilton's report refers to the interest being generated by the proposed powers of the new bank to make loans for house purchase. Reference is also made to the Loan Department of the Corporation - it appears that the 200 maximum limit for individual deposits in the temporary bank has been circumvented in a few cases by placing excess funds with the City Treasurer.
